Ciena’s vision of submarine networking at SNW 2019
We’re only about halfway through 2019 and it has already been a hectic year in the submarine network industry, where several new cables have been announced, deployed, and placed into a Ready for Service (RFS) state. In addition to announcements, several exciting topics of discussion (and often heated debates) related to new and rapidly emerging technologies and designs are seeping into submarine network infrastructure, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, automation, new coherent optical modulation schemes, proactive network protection, green cables, and as always, security.
Open Cables is still a hot topic of discussion so if you’re interested in the inner working of such novel designs, check out our Open Cables Handbook.
All of this activity and discussion has us excited about Submarine Networks World 2019 happening September 16-18 in Singapore. Will you be attending? If so, we’ll have experts onsite for discussions – of your choice – related to designing, building, operating, and maintaining submarine networks.
Before you go though, make sure you’re prepared for all the announcements and discussions by checking out our latest Ciena and TeleGeography webinar, which you can access here. This covered what to look for, and ask, when reading news and trial announcements by reading between the lines to best distinguish between a “hero” trial and “real-world” trial.
Meet the CTO and Masterclass Sessions
Once you’re at the show, we’ll be giving our annual Ciena’s Vision of Submarine Networks Masterclass on Monday, September 16, alongside a special pre-masterclass event featuring Steve Alexander, Senior VP and CTO, who’ll be available for an in-person gathering where YOU set the agenda. You’re free to ask questions and join the conversions to better understand the very latest in submarine network technology developments. You can register for Steve’s session here.
The masterclass topics to be covered are summarized below, which aim to stimulate a lively and engaging discussion among attendees. You can register for the masterclass session here.
State of the Submarine Industry—Past, Present, and Future
Learn about the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities that submarine cable operators the world over are facing—allowing you to make more informed decisions going forward.
Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM) Cables—A Modem Perspective
This session covers what SDM cables are and how they’ll affect the innovation direction of submarine optical modems—and how you can maximize capacity while maximizing overall cost economics.
Submarine Modem Technology Updates—500G and Beyond
Hear about the latest and emerging technologies available to submarine cable operators to intercept voracious bandwidth demand growth and understand the business impacts of these new technologies.
Open Cables, What You Need to Know
Learn about the current industry status of standardizing Open Cables and what you need to know to make informed decisions.
Additional Submarine Networks World participation
We’ll also be actively participating onstage alongside our industry peers at Submarine Networks World, summarized below.
