Network pioneers: Marcatel secures the first MEF Carrier Ethernet 3.0 Certification in Mexico
As many service providers were already in the process of updating their networks for 5G services and more IoT, VR and AR applications, no one could have anticipated the aggressive and accelerated shift – driven by a global pandemic – to a majority virtual lifestyle.
Luckily, Marcatel was already in the process of transforming its network to power next-generation technology demands. Building upon a pre-existing relationship, Marcatel and Ciena worked together to build a more adaptive, dynamic and scalable network to deliver a greater connectivity experience for consumers. Deploying Ciena’s packet-based network technology proved not only to be the right move for Marcatel’s network, but also positioned the company to earn an MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet certification, making Marcatel the first service provider in Mexico to achieve this credential.
Marcatel’s proactive decision to revamp its static network infrastructure to incorporate programmability, analytics and intelligence functions to gain insight into the health and performance of its network, is paying off in an environment where remote working and learning has quickly become the norm.
