The strategic alliance between ENI Networks, Braxem, and Ciena is implementing one of the first next-generation enterprise networks in central Mexico, establishing a new standard in comprehensive telecommunications solutions for businesses.
NetBIT, the enterprise services unit of ENI Networks, today announced the launch of its new enterprise offering in collaboration with Ciena, the global leader in high-speed connectivity, and its partner Braxem. This collaboration marks the first commercial deployment of passive optical network (PON) access technology that will help drive digital transformation in the Mexican enterprise market, beginning with strengthening connectivity in the Bajío region—one of the most advanced telecommunications areas in the country.
The new infrastructure, which will begin operations in November 2025 in Querétaro and San Luis Potosí, represents a major investment in Ciena’s next-generation solutions, including the 5164 and 3924 routers, including Ciena XGS-PON pluggable and ONUs, as well as PON access technology from the 3800 family. This implementation makes NetBIT and ENI Networks the first Mexican operator to use a topology based on distribution nodes in strategic areas, enabling the incorporation of additional enterprise-oriented services.
Benjamín Martínez Zazueta, Chief Executive Officer of ENI Networks, commented:
“Our collaboration with Ciena and Braxem enables us to take a technological leap and offer Mexican businesses infrastructure that previously was only available to large multinational corporations. We are not only offering connectivity; we are democratizing access to the technology powering the transition to the Fifth Industrial Revolution. Our approach goes beyond traditional internet—we provide comprehensive solutions that combine fiber-optic connectivity, high-capacity microwave links, managed cybersecurity, Wi-Fi network management, and real-time monitoring, all under a ‘single point of contact for all technology needs’ model. The level of customization we offer, using modular components that scale with each customer’s growth, sets us completely apart from rigid market offerings.”
Digital transformation of the Mexican enterprise ecosystem
The implemented solution uses an advanced network architecture with active distribution nodes that integrate the new technology into an IP/MPLS transport network. This configuration enables automatic redundancy between the fiber-optic connection and wireless links, achieving switching times below 50 milliseconds and network availability of up to 99.99%—critical for enterprise applications such as cloud-based ERP systems, real-time applications, HD videoconferencing, and artificial intelligence solutions.
The target market includes medium-sized businesses with 25 to 50 employees seeking solutions that go beyond traditional connectivity, encompassing key sectors such as manufacturing, emerging fintech, educational services, and technology companies in Mexico.
Global technology innovation adapted to the Mexican market
NetBIT’s deployment in Mexico replicates successful models from operators in Canada and the United States that have leveraged Ciena’s routing and switching solutions to transform regional markets. Ciena’s optical access technology allows NetBIT to scale cost-efficiently with demand, significantly reducing space and energy consumption compared to traditional chassis-based approaches.
“Ciena’s fiber-optic technology is helping NetBIT and ENI Networks redefine enterprise connectivity in Mexico,” said Carlos Hernández, Senior Director, Account Management at Ciena. “The convergence of IP/optical and PON in our architecture provides innovative operators like NetBIT the ability to simplify their infrastructure, optimize costs, and simultaneously deliver resilience and reliability.”
Building strategic alliances
Collaboration with Braxem, Ciena’s authorized distributor in Mexico, has been essential to the project’s success.
“NetBIT is the visionary operator the Mexican market needs,” said Heriberto Zelaya, Managing Director of Braxem Mexico. “Their focus on combining cutting-edge technology with personalized service and strong technical consulting establishes a new industry standard. We are proud to support this major step forward for Mexican businesses.”
Regional impact and growth
The NetBIT-Ciena project is designed specifically for key sectors in Mexico, including the automotive industry, advanced manufacturing, financial services, and emerging technology companies. The new infrastructure has the potential to directly impact the competitiveness of more than 50,000 medium and large businesses.
The launch in Querétaro and San Luis Potosí is the first phase of a regional strategy that includes integrating multiple fiber-optic networks acquired by ENI Networks. The company plans additional expansions to extend coverage in northern Mexico—cities such as Navojoa, Ciudad Obregón, and Hermosillo—and in the southeast along the Cancún–Tulum corridor, where 100 Gbps infrastructure is already under implementation.
“This alliance is not just about technology; it is about building Mexico’s digital future,” Benjamín concluded. “With Ciena and Braxem, we are creating the infrastructure that Mexican companies need to compete globally in the era of artificial intelligence.”
