End-user demand is driving the requirement for multiple system operators (MSOs) to transform their infrastructure into digital. Legacy systems and a shortage of fiber—especially near the edge—make this evolution difficult. The 5131 Coherent Access Platform (5131-CAP) tackles these challenges with remote-PHY devices (RPDs) and optical line terminals (OLTs) that maximize network efficiency while meeting the growing demand for digital services. This 360 Gb/s outdoor weatherproof variant of the 5000 family is optimized for MSOs and acts as an optical muxponder that aggregates distributed fiber into optical nodes. The result is extended reach between hubs and nodes and reduced fiber utilization.

Scaling transport networks - The transition to Segment Routing
While legacy transport technologies such as MPLS-TP, RSVP-TE, and LDP have served well in the past, it is Segment Routing that is key to building scalable transport networks for AI and cloud. Ciena’s Don Jacob discusses how network operators can
