Unique Mexico-U.S. routes offer high-speed connectivity for the AI age

Flō Networks, the leading independent business-to-business fiber bandwidth provider between key metropolitan markets in the southwestern U.S. and Mexico, announced the launch of new network routes between Querétaro, Mexico, and the United States, providing high-capacity, low-latency, diverse connectivity for its enterprise, wholesale, and hyperscaler customers.

The newly established routes to Querétaro—a key digital hub and data center hotspot—serve as vital links to El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, allowing for seamless, redundant connectivity to any existing network infrastructure. The first of their kind in the region in over 15 years, the routes leverage Ciena’s (NYSE: CIEN) 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and are powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optics, improving network speed and reliability with native 400G optical transport that reduces dependency on legacy routes.

“The surge in demand from AI, cloud applications, and business digitalization underscores the importance of reliable, ultra-high-capacity connectivity,” said Miguel Fernandez, CEO of Flō Networks. “These new network routes, powered by Ciena’s optical technology, exemplify our ongoing investment in advanced digital infrastructure to meet the requirements of global businesses and hyperscalers.”

“Utilizing Ciena’s 6500 and 800 Gb/s WL5e coherent optics, Flō Networks has successfully turned up new and alternative primary routes in fast-growing markets critical to data center expansion,” said Kevin Sheehan, CTO of the Americas, Ciena. “This collaboration highlights the pivotal role of high-performance networking in supporting data-intensive applications.”

Flō Networks is also using Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite (Navigator NCS) to optimize route performance and operational efficiency.
