Are pluggable coherent modems ready for prime time? In 2019, pluggable coherent modems represented 44 percent of the total coherent ports. Most of this demand was driven for 100G and 200G ports in CFP-DCO or CFP2-DCO form factors. In 2024, this is projected to grow to 52% of the total coherent ports, primarily driven by 200G CFP2-DCO and new 400G fixed and 100G – 400G multi-rate pluggable modems. The investments in 7 nm DSP technology, silicon photonics based coherent optics and use of advanced packaging is expected to springboard pluggable coherent modem usage. Read the report to learn how coherent pluggable modems apply for certain applications to meet each network’s requirements now and in the future.
