The Passive Optical Network (PON) architecture has established itself as the access technology of choice among telecom operators for the mass delivery of broadband services to their customers. However, cost remains a major barrier to achieving this goal—with the OSP cost as the main barrier preventing network operators from large-scale deployment of fiber in the access loop.
