Network providers are feeling the pressure of booming and unpredictable traffic volume. And current solutions only add complexity. Providers need a converged packet-optical solution that allows them to keep pace with demand growth while reducing complexity and adding new services. This paper includes a list of factors driving the evolution of metro networks today, and solutions that can lower costs and reduce power consumption and space requirements, while meeting ever-growing bandwidth demands.
