Ciena® (NYSE: CIEN) will showcase its converged packet optical and Agility software portfolios at Submarine Networks World 2014, one of the world's leading subsea cable conferences, which is set to take place October 14-15  at the Raffles City Convention Centre in Singapore. Ciena experts will be on hand to demonstrate how it can deliver automated on-demand services in submarine networks to help operators maximize revenue from their subsea assets. Additionally, Ciena’s Steve Alexander, senior vice president and chief technology officer, will present a a keynote speech focused on the future of submarine networking and the role SDN technologies will play in shaping the next generation of submarine networks.

  • 11:20 a.m. SGTSteve Alexander, SVP and CTO, will deliver a keynote speech titled “Software-Defined Networking for Submarine Networks: Enabling Smart and Agile On-Demand Service Delivery in an Application-Centric Ecosystem.” Mr. Alexander will discuss the challenges and opportunities that are currently shaping the subsea cable industry, such as the growth of application-centric capacity consumption and the need for open ecosystems and collaboration to enable on-demand cloud-based services that are made possible by programmable packet-optical networks.

  • 9:20 a.m. SGTSteve Alexander will present as part of the "How to Squeeze Every Drop of Bandwidth from Your System” panel discussion. 



  • SDN V-WAN Bandwidth-on-Demand over Submarine Networks (Booth B17)The demonstration will utilise Ciena's 6500 Packet-Optical Platform with e-MOTR packet switching functionality, together with Ciena's V-WAN network resource broker and scheduler controller software, part of the Agility software portfolio, to demonstrate how dynamic and automated on-demand services can be deployed over submarine networks by agile software control of Ciena's programmable packet-optical SLTE equipment.
