Sao Paulo facility to support trials, proof-of-concept demonstrations and customer training

Ciena® (NYSE: CIEN), the network specialist, opened its first advanced technology lab in Brazil. The new facility, located in Sao Paulo, will serve as a testing and training hub for Ciena customers, partners and employees across the country and region.

“This lab will allow our customers, partners and employees to experience and test our latest packet-optical, Carrier Ethernet and software platforms,” said Fabio Medina, Ciena’s general manager and vice president of sales for CALA. “With this new regional facility, we are building on our technology leadership and reinforcing our growing commitment to the Brazilian market and Latin American region.”

Brazil is home to Ciena’s largest Latin America office, and the new lab will be open to all local and international Ciena customers in the region. The lab will also play an important role in Ciena’s work with Brazil’s leading universities by offering special training opportunities to future engineers in important technologies such as software-defined networking, network functions virtualization and next-generation packet-optical convergence.

Ciena’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Field Operations, Philippe Morin, joined Medina for the lab opening, where several customers and partners were in attendance.

Ciena currently serves more than 100 customers and operates in more than 20 countries and territories across the CALA region. Ciena serves a number of leading operators in the region, including Cablevision Argentina, Cable & Wireless Panamá, LANautilus, MetroRed, Telecom Argentina, Telefónica, Telesur, Telmex and VTR Chile.
