FiberLight, LLC, an industry leader in providing high-performance fiber-optic network solutions, today announces a substantial investment in its South Florida fiber optic network, which will be powered by Ciena’s converged packet optical and packet networking platforms. Once complete, businesses in South Florida will see enhanced benefits from FiberLight’s self-healing network architecture, including higher bandwidth capabilities to meet big data, data mirroring and storage area network demands.

The FiberLight network upgrade announced today will affect 70 percent of FiberLight’s South Florida network, which runs from North Palm Beach to Doral.  When completed in late October, FiberLight’s upgraded South Florida core network will connect to nearly every data center in the region and will feature dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) nodes and Ethernet aggregation switches at six (6) such data centers in Miami – the NAP of the Americas, two Equinix locations, Miami Data Vault, QTS and Peak 10.

“Businesses in the South Florida region now have access to the latest and greatest backbone technology capable of handling all conceivable transport requirements, including large bandwidth needs,” said FiberLight’s Regional Director of Sales, Chris Bradford.  “FiberLight’s investment will support and sustain our customers’ long-term growth as big data and data mirroring trends gain more traction and continue to develop.”

FiberLight chose to partner with Ciena in South Florida based on Ciena’s best-in-class performance and their fit with FiberLight’s corporate objectives.  “Ciena was a natural fit for this project, based on their commitment to providing end-users with the ability to scale service to meet growing business demands,”  said Jeff Chapman, FiberLight’s Executive Vice President of Engineering Services.  “We have been pleased with the dedication and scalability that the Ciena team has shown with respect to our expansion activities in Texas, so we were excited to bring them on board to support this investment in our South Florida footprint.”

For this project, FiberLight will deploy Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform equipped with WaveLogic Photonics to provide simple and quick, high-capacity wavelength connectivity across data centers in the Miami area, from 10G to 100G and beyond.  FiberLight will also deploy Ciena’s 5160 Service Aggregation Switch to deliver high-capacity business services as well as Ciena’s OneControl Unified Management System for faster service turn-up and end-to-end visibility.

“FiberLight will now be able scale its network so it can quickly and cost-effectively offer new services to its enterprise, data center and cloud provider customers in South Florida,” said Jason Phipps, General Manager and Vice President of North America Field Organization at Ciena.  “This deployment also gives FiberLight a programmable infrastructure to support its customers’ changing needs.”
