Virtual Managed Services Automation

Enhance your services by rapidly creating value-added offerings

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) has the potential to transform service provider networks by increasing efficiency and accelerating services, benefits that are now widely recognized by the industry. Network operators are beginning to deploy a select group of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs)—like firewalls, routers, and load balancers—in their production networks, intending to offer them as value-added, managed service offerings for generating incremental revenue streams.

NFV is a relatively new technology that requires different skill sets, methods, and procedures for effective deployment, however. As a result, many of the implementation and ongoing lifecycle challenges have been organizational. A successful NFV deployment requires seamless collaboration between a service provider’s IT and NetOps organizations—that’s where Blue Planet can help.

Our Virtual Managed Services Automation solution bridges the gap between IT and NetOps to ensure a successful NFV deployment. It provides advanced orchestration capabilities to simplify the lifecycle management of NFV-based network services. It also uses intelligent automation to create and instantiate VNFs through an intent-based, template driven methodology—and to chain VNFs together with each other, or with existing network services.

Our solution also offers service templates that are standardized in a high-level, human-readable format; the complexity of the underlying implementation is managed and controlled by the software.

  • Single unified Application Programmable Interface (API) for integration with business applications and/or customer-facing, self-service portals through which service requests can be initiated.
  • Multi-Domain Service Orchestration (MDSO) and chaining across both VNFs and existing services (physical network functions) for creating end-to-end services. For example, a load balancer or firewall can be attached to an existing Virtual Private Network connection as a value-added offering.
  • Resource Adapters (RAs) provide an abstraction layer from a common information model to communicate with a wide variety of VNFs and domain controllers, regardless of vendor or native protocol.
  • DevOps-style approach to network automation. The Blue Planet DevOps Toolkit and Exchange provide a collection of resources—including a community forum, how-to videos, and user documentation—that simplify on-boarding and collaborative service development for specific customer configurations.
