The CN 4300™ Managed Optical Services Switch is a carrier-grade multiservice transport and switching platform. It integrates access service aggregation, cross-connect functions, add/drop multiplexing and WDM capabilities to enable a diverse range of metro service offerings.

The CN 4300 Managed Optical Services Switch is a carrier-grade multiservice transport and switching platform. It integrates access service aggregation, cross-connect functions, add/drop multiplexing and WDM capabilities to enable a diverse range of metro service offerings, including Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), Fibre Channel (FC) and FICONTM. The CN 4300 has a central non-blocking, protocolindependent switch matrix that enables dynamic service provisioning, flexible service topologies, and automatic protection switching with service level granularity. Optional redundancy on line cards and common elements guarantees carrier-grade service availability, with sub-millisecond automatic protection switching.

As a true carrier-grade network element, the CN 4300 provides complete services protection and can be managed centrally by standard OSS platforms, as well as by a local terminal. Less obvious however, is the CN 4300’s capacity to deliver standardized and rigorous performance monitoring metrics for all supported transport services. As a result, operators can offer their data services customers Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that are comparable to those offered for standard SONET/SDH.

The CN 4300 can be incorporated into existing SONET/SDH networks. When so deployed, it can be viewed as an incremental and transparent element whose introduction requires no provisioning changes to existing SONET/SDH services or equipment. This feature allows operators the ability to offer additional, incremental data services on existing fiber infrastructures without disrupting service.

Applications Common applications include: add/drop and multiplexing of wavelength services; multi-ring interconnection between Coarse WDM (CWDM) access networks and Dense WDM (DWDM) metro core networks; central office access gateway for remote management and surveillance of CN 2300s; and service aggregation and handoff for long-haul DWDM systems including Ciena’s CoreStream® Agility and CoreDirector®.

Management The CN 4300 has a full suite of carrier-grade management and operations features, including TL1, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, and HTTP interfaces for integration with the ON-Center® Network Control System (or other existing management systems). It also provides standards-based alarming, performance monitoring and statistics collection that is consistent for all service types.
