ON-Center Core Switching Manager (CSM) is an element/subnetwork management system, enabling centralized monitoring and control of the CoreDirector and CoreDirector CI optical switching platforms.

A module of ON-Center Network and Service Management Suite, CSM provides simple, integrated management capabilities for wavelength and bandwidth service. CSM features point-and-click provisioning, which enables the rapid delivery of services in a core optical network, while effectively managing network functionality via a single management client console.

CSM is comprised of three components: the database; the server software; and the client application. The database maintains detailed current and historical information about the state of the network. The server software manages network information obtained from either the CoreDirector or CoreDirector CI. The client application provides a simple GUI with online guides and automated templates to streamline both service provisioning and access of stored data.

CSM offers automated discovery and topology views of the core optical network, allowing users to easily visualize the network configuration and services. Its performance monitoring capabilities deliver real-time statistics and reports on the activity of CoreDirector or CoreDirector CI NEs, while the configuration management features enable pre-configured, plug-and-play functionality. CSM delivers core optical network management and monitoring with the data-optimized reliability and maximum network availability that service providers require.

As a module of the ON-Center suite, CSM interoperates seamlessly with the ON-Center Integrated Network Manager providing full FCAPS, including end-to-end provisioning and end-to-end service management for all Ciena products.
