FlexSelect 40G Shelf
THE FLEXSELECT 40G SHELF IS A UNIVERSAL 40 GB/S SOLUTION that enhances the existing capabilities of the CoreStream® Agility Optical Transport System and CN 4200™ FlexSelect Advanced Services Platform Family. Developed for network operators who want to provide next-generation 40 Gb/s services or increase system capacity on existing fiber plants, this addition to Ciena’s FlexSelect Architecture offers a flexible, scalable, and easy-to-deploy 40 Gb/s solution that operates on current infrastructure designed for 10 Gb/s wavelengths. The FlexSelect 40G Shelf also features adaptive dispersion management that addresses the physical impairments associated with offering 40G service delivery over legacy fiber networks, eliminating the need to re-engineer the network for 40G transport when offering nextgeneration services.
The FlexSelect 40G Shelf enables transport of 40 Gb/s wavelengths over metro, regional, long-haul, and ultra long-haul wavelengths, and can operate over existing Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) or hybrid EDFA-Raman amplified spans. In addition to the 40G transponder and regeneration cards, the FlexSelect 40G Shelf offers a 4 x 10 Gb/s OC-192/STM-64/10 GbE/OTU-2 muxponder module for 10 Gb/s services. Each 10 Gb/s service is treated independently, allowing mixing of 10 Gb/s SONET/SDH, 10GbE Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) or 10 Gb/s OTU-2 ports on the same module.
The FlexSelect 40G Shelf is compliant with ITU G.709 Optical Transport Networks (OTNs), providing transparency for current client services and investment protection as new protocols emerge. The shelf is managed by Ciena’s ON-Center® Network and Service Management Suite, a point-and-click network and service management system, and enables granular service-level management to enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The flexibility, transparency, and management of the FlexSelect 40G Shelf allows Ciena to offer the lowest total cost of ownership, maximizing overall value for network operators.
