The Ethernet-over-TDM solutions allow service providers to extend standard Ethernet services to almost any customer—including off-net and out-ofregion locations—by providing Ethernet service delivery over existing TDM-based access networks. Leveraging the inherent reliability of TDM infrastructures, the Service Extension family includes Ethernet demarcation and concentration devices for PDH (T1/E1 and T3/E3) and SONET/SDH (OC-3/STM-1) networks.

The Ethernet Demarcation Devices (EDD) are located at the customer premises and complimentary Ethernet Concentration Devices (ECD) reside in the central office. The EDD provides intelligent demarcation between customer and carrier networks and supports Ethernet Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) for traffic management and performance monitoring, enabling end-to-end service monitoring and Service Level Agreement (SLA) verification. The EDD can be managed fully from remote locations, providing tremendous savings on operational expenses.

The Ethernet-over-TDM Demarcation Devices feature carrier-grade designs, including robust Quality of Service (QoS) support, and MEF 9 and MEF 14 certification. The products are highly flexible with programmable hardware that supports remote, in-service upgrades. Implementation of standards-based X.86 and Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) encapsulation ensures vendor interoperability and the ability to adapt as specifications change and evolve.

Where applicable, Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) are supported to bond TDM circuits and provide services at rates not directly available over standard TDM circuits, allowing greater service granularity and more efficient network utilization.
