Ciena's CN 3000 Ethernet Access Series products are carrier-class solutions for delivering Ethernet business services across both fiber- and copper-based access networks. The Ethernet-over-TDM solutions allow service providers to extend standard Ethernet services to almost any customer—including off-net and out-of-region locations—by providing Ethernet service delivery over existing TDM-based access networks. Leveraging the inherent reliability of TDM infrastructures, the CN 3000 Series includes products for PDH (T1/E1 and T3/E3) and SONET/SDH (OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4) networks.

Ciena’s CN 3000 Series Ethernet-over-TDM products include Network Termination Equipment (NTE) located at the customer premises and complimentary NTE Aggregators that reside in the Central Office (CO).

MODULAR NTE AGGREGATOR
The CN 3400™ Modular NTE Aggregator can be located at the service provider’s Point Of Presence (POP) or CO, providing a highly reliable, scalable, pay-as-you-grow chassis to aggregate traffic from multiple NTE devices. The capability to aggregate up to 504 subscribers on a single chassis and efficiently fill multiple Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), OC-3/12 or STM-1/4 uplinks provides tremendous cost savings versus deploying thinly loaded Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) ports across the network.

The CN 3400 supports a variety of interfaces, including 10/100BaseT on the subscriber side, and therefore can be deployed at the customer premises to perform as a larger capacity multiservice NTE. This product is built using the same core technology as other 3000 Series NTE and supports a common carrier-grade design and QoS, Ethernet OAM and Layer 2 capabilities.

CN 3400 hardware can be configured to provide redundancy, including power, switch and interface modules. SONET/SDH Automatic Protection Switching (APS) is an option on all SONET /SDH interfaces, and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) is available to provide redundancy on all Ethernet interfaces. In addition, all modules are hot-swappable and can be introduced without affecting traffic currently running in the system.

DEDICATED AGGREGATORS
In addition to the Modular NTE Aggregator, the CN 3000 Series includes complementary Dedicated Aggregators (6 x chDS3 and 2 x chOC-3/ STM-1) for industry-leading low speed, high density Ethernet service aggregation in deployments of sub- 100M Ethernet services, such as the huge off-net opportunity and 10M E-Line and E-LAN “sweet spot” for carrier Ethernet services. These platforms support up to 168 T1 and 126 E1 NTE connections and can be deployed as daughter card connections to existing CN 3400 Modular NTE Aggregators. The GbE network uplinks support carrier-class redundancy options including LACP or Ethernet 1+1 configurations.
