The C-OADM provides up to 8 add/drop channels at intermediate nodes within a CoreStream Agility network. With single channel granularity,
the C-OADM is capable of dropping any mix of wavelengths within a single CoreStream band. Multiple C-OADMs can be supported in a CoreStream Agility network; C-OADM can also be mixed with Select OADM to enable wavelength re-use, as shown in the diagram. Within the same DWDM link, wavelengths can be provisioned to cover the entire route or any portion of the route, providing an optimal solution for all types of traffic patterns within the network.

Integrated OADM capability lowers network CAPEX and OPEX by allowing a single longer distance route to replace multiple shorter segments. A fully configured C-OADM, consumes only a portion of a single bay, minimizing space and power requirements at intermediate nodes. By pre-installing a single module at any amplifier node, an in-service upgrade to a C-OADM is enabled to  support future add/drop requirements. The C-OADM supports 10 Gb/s, 10GbE, and 40 Gb/s wavelengths, as well as ITU-T wavelengths from Ciena’s CoreDirector Multiservice Optical Switch.
