Big growth in a small package

Big growth doesn't have to mean big cost or complicated upgrades. With the compact CNX-5Plus, you can add broadband DSL services selectively to remote narrowband equipment, reusing existing infrastructure to minimize costs and speed service roll-out. Thinking about delivering new broadband services? The CNX-5Plus supports ATM or GbE and IPTV services with a single card swap to simplify your network transition. Ciena's CNX-5Plus empowers you to expand your broadband footprint at your own rate without costly growing pains.

The CNX-5Plus™ is a compact, modular Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) that enables carriers to selectively add broadband services to the installed base of narrowband digital loop carriers. The CNX-5Plus provides a simple and inexpensive means to expand DSL footprint and extend the capabilities and life cycle of older DLC equipment.

The CNX-5Plus provides up to 96 DSL subscriber ports in a single low-profile shelf that is installed directly inside existing cabinets. Costly site modifications—such as pouring new pads and adding adjunct DSLAM cabinets—are unnecessary. Integrated POTS splitters eliminate the need for external splitter shelves and an innovative “make before break” feature ensures voice services are never impacted, even when a DSL card is removed.

Modular Design The CNX-5Plus supports copper and fiber network interfaces to provide the flexibility required in the highly variable outside plant transport network. Carriers can grow capacity in 4 port increments to match costs with revenues as market demand develops. The CNX-5Plus supports system expansion using protected optical ring technology, to scale to higher port capacities while ensuring maximum transport efficiency.

The CNX-5Plus Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network interface provides maximum compatibility with Ethernet/IP transport networks, including support for IPTV services. In locations where the network transition to Ethernet/IP has not yet been made, the CNX-5Plus can be configured as a compact ATM DSLAM to secure DSL footprint, and later upgraded to support GbE and IPTV services with a single card swap.

Simplified Management The CNX-5Plus is managed by the same proven CatenaView™ Element Management System (EMS) as the popular CNX-5 that is deployed in many carrier networks. The CatenaView EMS provides full GUI and flow-through provisioning management.

Operations Support System (OSS) integration requires minimal additional effort due to the high degree of commonality with the CNX-5 system. TL1/CORBA Gateways allow for easy back office integration with higher layer management systems and all CNX network elements can be managed in a single EMS instance.
