The UOG is Ciena's implementation of the TeleManagement Forum's (TMF) Multi-Technology Network Management (MTNM) interface standard. The interface is currently at Release 3.5 and is often referred to as the TMF-814 interface (for more information, visit http://www.tmforum.org/browse.aspx?catid=1689). Ciena supports full network and OSS automation with embedded network intelligence to harness the value of data-efficient optical networking technology.
Driven by rapid growth and the convergence of voice and data-centric networks towards an integrated multiservice network, service providers are faced with the challenging task of managing the evolution of the OSS. Ciena offers unified management of a fully reconfigurable network, with appropriate open interfaces, tools and professional services to lead network operators through the transition while minimizing the impact on their back office infrastructure.
Ciena's UOG offers flexible solutions for service automation, giving virtually any device with an MTNM TMF-814 standard interface the ability to interact with, and fully manage, the entire intelligent optical network from a single interface. The UOG maps standards-based operations to specific Ciena equipment commands. This solution is industry proven and already deployed at several major network operators
As a prominent contributor to the TMF NBI standards body, Ciena has a long term commitment to support and enhance our MTNM interface. Additionally, to satisfy network operators' ever-increasing interest in web services/XML-based interfaces, Ciena intends to support TMF MTOSI for integration into next-generation back office systems.
Ciena's UOG is delivered in a collection of Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) Interface Definition Language (IDL) modules. Both are defined by the Object Management Group (OMG), which is a consortium of software manufacturers and users (for more information, visit http://www.omg.org/).
Ciena may make changes from time to time to the products or specifications contained herein without notice.
