CIENA NAMES RUSSELL STEVENSON SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL
Linthicum, MD — 08/27/2001Ciena Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN), a global leader in intelligent optical networking systems and software, today announced that Russell Stevenson has joined the Company as senior vice president and general counsel. Stevenson will manage all aspects of Ciena's legal department, and will serve as an integral member of Ciena's senior management team.
Stevenson replaces Michael McCarthy, who was recently appointed as Ciena's senior vice president of worldwide sales and support.
Prior to joining Ciena, Stevenson served as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of ARBROS Communications, Inc., an integrated communications provider serving medium-sized businesses in the northeastern United States.

Prior to his role at ARBROS Communications, Stevenson was general counsel for CyberCash, Inc., engaged in the private practice of law in Washington, D.C., and served as Deputy General Counsel in the Securities and Exchange Commission. Stevenson also is a legal scholar, having been a law professor for 10 years and authored several books and numerous articles during his distinguished legal career.
