Ciena Corporation (Nasdaq: CIEN) today announced that Stephen P. Bradley, the William Ziegler Professor of Business Administration and the Chairman of the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School, has joined the Company's Board of Directors.

A member of the Harvard faculty since 1968, Professor Bradley is also Chairman of Harvard's Executive Program in Competition and Strategy and teaches in Harvard's Delivering Information Services program. In addition, he teaches two courses in the school's MBA program: Competing in the Information Age and Business and the Internet: Strategy, Policy, and the Law.

"There is no question that Ciena will benefit from the addition of Steve Bradley's insight on the evolving nature of competition and business strategy in our rapidly changing industry," said Patrick Nettles, Ciena's president and chief executive officer. "Steve's experience and research in telecommunications and technology likely will prove invaluable as we look to the future for Ciena."

"Ciena appears to be on the cusp of a revolution in the way service providers look to build their networks," said Professor Bradley. "I am very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to the future direction of a company that gives every indication it has the potential to be a significant player in the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry."
