CIENA CORPORATION ANNOUNCES FILING OF REGISTRATION STATEMENT FOR A PUBLIC OFFERING OF COMMON STOCK

Ciena Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN) announced today that it had filed a Registration Statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission relating to a proposed public offering of approximately 1 million shares of comm on stock by the Company and 9 million shares by certain selling stockholders. The offering is to be made through underwriters led by Goldman, Sachs & Co., Alex. Brown & Sons Incorporated and Wessels, Arnold & Henderson.
