CIENA’S ONLINE™ METRO PRODUCTS COMPLETE TELCORDIA™ OSMINE SERVICES PROCESS
Former ONI Systems Platform Approved for ILEC Networks
Linthicum, MD — 07/18/2002Ciena Corporation® (NASDAQ: CIEN), a leading provider of intelligent optical networking systems and software, today announced that its ONLINE™ 7000, 9000 and 11000 metro products, have fully completed the Telcordia™ Technologies OSMINE Services process for the Telcordia™ TIRKS®, NMA® and Transport Element Activation Manager Operations Support Systems (OSSs).
Completion of this process helps enable the ONLINE products to operate seamlessly with service providers that have deployed these Telcordia OSSs, such as the U.S.-based incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs). In addition, the ONLINE™ 2500, an optical edge access solution, has completed integration with the Telcordia TIRKS® OSS, the first phase of the OSMINE process.
The completion of the Telcordia™ OSMINE Services process, will help enable carriers to integrate Ciena’s industry-leading optical networking solutions into their existing networks and operations environments to rapidly meet the growing demand for metropolitan services, including new services, such as Gigabit Ethernet, storage applications and wavelength services.

Products that have been through the OSMINE process have greater marketability and salability to US-based ILECs. The process also helps ensure that the product will integrate with the embedded OSS systems when a product is deployed. Thus, the ILECs will have automation or flowthrough support. In addition, the equipment manufacturer can have multiple product lines or network elements that are OSMINE Services supported. At Telcordia, the equipment manufacturer can also be assured that all products and features are kept confidential.
