Joe Marsella is Vice President of Product Line Management (PLM) for Ciena’s Metro & Edge products & solutions. In this role, he is responsible for all IP/MPLS, Ethernet, & Optical products targeted to the Metro & Edge of the network including Ciena’s Mobile, Enterprise, Residential & Converged IP/Optical oriented solutions.
Joe has more than 20 years of experience in the software and telecommunications industry, along with a strong background in SDN, NFV, orchestration, photonics, DWDM, OTN, Ethernet, IP/MPLS and multi-layer Control Planes. Since joining Ciena in 1997, he has held various roles including most recently the VP PLM Routing & Switching, VP Global Sales Engineering, CTO for EMEA and multiple positions in both Product Line Management (PLM) and Engineering across Ciena’s transport, switching, routing and software product portfolios. In these positions, he contributed to Ciena’s SDN/NFV portfolio, helped develop the global packet-optical switching business and ran Ciena’s global metro and core optical Transport portfolio. Prior to Ciena, Joe was a principal member technical staff at Siemens where he led software integration for Siemens’s Cable Telephony Product.
Joe has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Information Systems from Clemson University, a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from both Purdue University and EASC/EAP in Paris.
