Optical Core Migration for MSOs: Support New Revenue-Generating Services

As residential traffic increases from the deployment of Docsis 3.0 and the addition of VoIP services, MSOs are expanding rapidly into business services with Carrier Ethernet. This expanding mix of packet-based services and ever-increasing traffic demand is forcing MSOs to consider the evolution of their core optical networks. The core optical network must transport these varied traffic types and provide new bandwidth on existing fiber assets to minimize costs. New core transport options must deliver 40G/100G capacity with minimal disruption to the existing network and efficiently manage the migration from TDM to packet.
