Cable & Wireless (NYSE: CWP), the global telecommunications group, selected Ciena's CoreDirector™ intelligent optical switching system for access bandwidth grooming applications.  Cable & Wireless utilized CoreDirector to efficiently consolidate, groom and manage a wide variety of bandwidth access levels from STM1 to OC48 across its global IP network. Cable & Wireless also used Ciena's network management systems for automated route provisioning and dynamic circuit restoration that is essential to meet customer needs in the global bandwidth market today. Cable & Wireless Communications was the first carrier in Europe to deploy DWDM in 1997, and used Ciena’s DWDM equipment to carry live commercial traffic between the United States and mainland Europe through the UK.
