Ciena India: Teaching Children Computing Skills

In January 2007, the Ciena team in India launched a community outreach program to share technological skills with underprivileged children.  Ciena employees spent time with 40 children (ages 10-12) throughout Saturdays in January where they taught students from Shiksha Kendra school a variety of basic computer proficiencies.

About DPS Shiksha Kendra
Shiksha Kendra (an initiative sponsored by DPS) is a school for underprivileged children from nearby localities of Gurgaon.   It is targeted at those who cannot afford a basic education, thus offering them not only free, but quality education.  Volunteer teachers provide them learning in an atmosphere that encourages free thinking, and motivates rather than restricts them.
