Community outreach

Ciena is committed to building quality connections within our communities.  Through multiple volunteer programs and events, our employees are able to share the inspired thinking, innovation, and drive that are inherent throughout their daily work life with people and organizations in need.  Ciena’s outreach efforts continue to evolve as we constantly look for ways to positively impact the well-being of our communities.

Ciena’s Habitat for Humanity Update
In early March 2008, volunteers from Ciena’s Linthicum offices started work on a Habitat for Humanity home in Baltimore, Maryland, a project co-sponsored with Provident Bank and the Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU). Ciena volunteers will continue to work for two Saturdays each month as they rehab the home in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood, until construction is completed in September 2008. Since 1992, the Sandtown Habitat for Humanity team has completed 255 homes, with the majority of the homes being rehabs, which means the brick facade of the house is retained and the inside of the home is gutted and rebuilt as new.
