Leveraging LightRiver’s Factory Built Network® Solution, backed by Ciena’s 8700 Packetwave Platform, Wilcon Transforms Network Capabilities

LightRiver Technologies, Inc., a leader in Factory Built Network® design and commissioning, announces today that Wilcon, a premier West Coast provider of best-in-class fiber optic network and data center infrastructure, has once again teamed with LightRiver to design, deploy and support new Ethernet products and capabilities. Utilizing Ciena’s programmable 8700 Packetwave Platform, Wilcon can offer a combination of high-capacity Ethernet switching, up to 100GbE, with intelligent coherent optics and an open software paradigm. Ciena’s platform enables Wilcon to further scale its 3,000 mile fiber optic network in support of “on-demand” applications that include cloud services, streaming media and content distribution.

Partnering with LightRiver as Wilcon’s next generation transport solutions provider for virtual engineering, implementation and support, has allowed more resources to be aimed at the needs of the customer, accelerating growth. LightRiver offers its Factory Built Network®solution through this partnership, plus technical services such as network design, procurement and turnkey implementation, project management, and post-implementation support. Ciena’s multi-terabit 8700 integrates Ethernet and MPLS-TP switching with Ciena’s coherent 100G WaveLogic 3 Nano optics, optimized for reaches up to 1000km, into a single, scalable platform that enables simpler, more cost-effective networks without stranding switch capacity.

“As a fiber optic network operator in Southern California, we are constantly improving our network in ways that will exceed the bandwidth needs of today’s data-driven society,” states Reginald Scales, SVP Sales & Marketing, Wilcon. “We are pleased to work once again with our expert and reliable partners, LightRiver and Ciena, in our mission to enhance our Metro Ethernet capabilities. LightRiver’s proven network design and deployment services, coupled with Ciena’s 8700 platform, help Wilcon rapidly deliver high-capacity services, aggregate users, and provide express connections to key data centers, enterprise locations and wireless communications sites across our region.”

“The technology alliance between Wilcon and LightRiver empowers Wilcon to focus tightly on the needs of its customers, with each party leveraging extended expert resources, enabling faster growth on Wilcon Ethernet products,” comments Mike Jonas, President of Global Sales and Marketing for LightRiver. “Wilcon continues to have an incredibly positive impact as a major fiber optic network provider in the SoCal market due partly to a strategy that welcomes collaboration with LightRiver and our highly valued partner, Ciena, to contribute innovative approaches that expedite the design and deployment of carrier grade metro networks.”

In 2014, Wilcon deployed a number of Ciena’s converged packet optical and packet networking solutions, to enhance its network to meet the needs of other carriers and service providers, as well as M&E companies.
